    1963 master cylinder

Is it possible to convert a non power brake M/C to power brake and properly drill and install bleeder without damage. I am wondering if anyone has done this before.

Are there any other differences other than the bleeder and bolt in place of the thumb screw?

Not only is it possible, it has been done on many occasions before. And no there are no other differences.

      Re: 1963 master cylinder

Can you tell me if they used the bolt securing the lid on the early cars? My car is built November 62 and I am thinking about installing power brakes if I can find a nice booster. Also, how hard is it to install the plate at the firewall and buck the rivet?

      Thanks, Tim

Joe,Do you know what size the thread is and the bleeder screw? Also Tim, My car is an October car so your question of the thumbscrew or the hex head is important to me. Did you ever get an answer? Thanks,Jerry

Tim, when I installed the plate at the fire wall I just used a little glue to hold the rivets in place and the two bolts actually hold it. I couldn't see any way to buck the rivet and not damage something. The reason they went from the thumb screw to the bolt is the thumb screw can hit the hood when closed. So you may want to use some caution when closing the hood if you go that way.

There are several known 63 cars that have the mounting bracket pop-riveted on. Use a pop-rivet and spray it with blackout.

Jim was there more than one part number for boosters in 63? the no 3493 is that stamped on the booster? I know the judging manual calls out for No. 2574

Sorry for not being more clear. 3493 is my car's VIN.
