    Radiator Spreader bar holes?

    Hello,

Does anyone have a picture/dimensions of the rectangular, square holes found on the top of the spreader bar for a copper radiator?

    Thanks,
    Andrew (48361)

    Hi Andrew,
I'm not sure what you mean by 'spreader bar'. I'd like to try to help.
    I see you car is a 71, 350, 4-speed. Is it a 270 or 330 hp engine. I'm thinking 330 hp or 270, a/c, since you're asking about a copper radiator. A little more info, please.
    Merry Christmas!
    Regards,
    Alan

Those holes are only partially visible, and sometimes not at all, when the radiator and shroud are in position. The configuration of the bar is also a judged item, so not only do the holes have to be correct, but the bar itself also should be the correct dimensions.

The best chance of photos will be if someone has an original copper/brass radiator out of the car. Given the holidays you might have to wait a while unless someone has a photo on file.

One hole is square and the other rectangular, but both have the same front to rear dimension.

          Hi Kurt,
Thanks for posting the link. At least now I know what the 'spreader bar' and 'holes' are. Hopefully your link helped Andrew too.
          Merry Christmas!

            Hello,

            Thanks for the link.

The picture should be good enough to replicate the cut outs. I realize the spreader bar is also judged and the dimensions on mine are correct, the only thing I am missing are the 4 cut outs

Thanks once again for all the replies.

              Andrew,
If you want to give me a few days, with the coming weekend thaw I might be able to get you some dimensions from the garage.

                Terry,

That would be great , having the dimensions would make things easier.

                  Re: Radiator Spreader bar holes?

Here is a picture of the driver's side of my 1970 small block. The passenger side has the shroud foam strip up against the radiator mounting bracket and the spreader bar holes are under the foam. As you can see, judging these holes without moving the foam is not possible. I have seen installations where the foam is shorter and the holes can be seen on one side or the other. And then of course there are those situations where the foam is missing.

On the driver's side the rectangular hole (the outboard hole) begins 0.643 inches from the radiator mounting bracket. Note that this is the bracket on the car, and NOT the radiator header tank.

The rectangular hole is 0.528 inches wide. The space between the holes is 0.191 inches, and the inboard hole is 0.241 inches wide. Both holes are 0.351 inches front to back.

I made these measurements with a digital dial caliper, and they are as accurate as I could get them, but as you can see from the photo I had to move the foam sealing strip to get to the inboard hole -- so there may be some minor inaccuracies in my measurements. There is less room to get the caliper in here than I would like.

                    Terry,

Thanks for all the information and the measurements!!!!

This really helps me out. I can finally put everything back together and start on another project

                    Thanks once again,

I'm pleased to help. Sorry it took so long, but things have been hectic around here with the holidays and the weather.

                      Happy New Year.
