I would really appreciate your opinion on the originality of this fender emblem off my 66. It's a Cinco de Mayo (may 5th, 1966) build date. I believe the part # to be correct, but I'm no expert. I hope the pictures are clear and thanks in advance.

Re: Fender Emblem Original?
Started off as a 396 emblem discussion but morphed into small block side flags. This might help, for starters. Scroll down to post #17 for the small blocks.

Re: Fender Emblem Original?
Wayne,
Thanks for the link - good thread and read. From what I read, it appears that the emblem that I have could be correct. Is there anyway to tell if it's original or service?
Thanks again.Rob

Re: Fender Emblem Original?
Rob,
I suggest going to one of the large chain hobby shops to get paint for your emblems. I picked about 4 to 5 different shades of red-orange for my '65 396 emblems and them narrowed it down from there. Also buy a modelers detail brush, the smaller the better.
Hint... when you are finished flowing the red/maroon paint into the emblem(I put on at least two coats), you might want to think about spraying it with some Krylon matte finish or satin clear. This will help to hide any irregularites or brush marks in the red/maroon paint. At the hobby shop you can buy what they call invisible mask that can be brush applied and is easily removable with a tooth pick or modelers knife. Brush apply this masking agent on the top outer chrome edges, the top flat surfaces of the flur-de-lese and Chevrolet bowtie. Then masking the rest of the emblem off and give the unmasked portion a few coats of the clear. There are pictures of the '65 396 emblems that I hand painted in the thread that Wayne mentions in his post.
I highly suggest that if you have an old emblem to practice on, do so to get the hang of flowing the paint. If you don't, contact me and I'll send you an old emblem to practice on.
Hope this helps,
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
