    Shroud Attachment

Can anyone tell me the finish of bolts that attach the shroud to the core support. There are 2 each side and 2 long 1 short on bracket at top over radiator. Are they painted, zinc, blackened ????????? '66 judging guide says nothing regarding finish. Thank You

John is correct on the fan shroud bolts. Dark grey color.

I think the 6 long bolts that secure the upper radiator brackets are zinc/cad.??

Thank You John & Michael. Mike, I don't have 6 bolts holding the radiator to the top of the shroud, I have 3, 2 long & 1 short, is this what you mean?
        Thanks again

I think I answered your question incorrectly. For some reason, I somehow automatically assumed we were talking about a big block. With a bolt count of three on top bracket, that must mean we're talking about a small block.
In that case, the two long bolts are zinc/cad but I'm not sure on the short bolt. I think it's zinc/cad also but I'm not sure. If it's a bolt without attached/loose washer, it's most likely zinc/cad.

          I'll try to pay attention.

Thank You Michael. Sorry about the confusion. I do believe the small bolt has at least a larger washer, because the hole in the shroud is kinda oversized. It tucked up inside the shroud. So maybe all of them are zinc/cad. Paragon shows them as long black/gray and short cad/zinc but LI shows all them cad/zinc. Sure creates confusion. Thanks again.

Looking at the AIM sheets, I see that four of the shroud bolts and the upper bracket short bolt are the same 122007 part number. There's a lock washer, part number 120214, shown for the four shroud to core support bolts.

A different lock washer, part number 103320, and a flat washer, part number 3748358, are shown for the short upper bracket bolt.

The two long upper bracket bolts, part number 454872, are used with a 103320 lock washer and 3688003 washer. (no description on the 3688003 but probably a large dia flat/fender washer)

The only bolts that I know the plating on would be the two long bolts and that would be zinc/cad.

Do you have the assembly manual?

                Re: Shroud Attachment

Thanks Michael for pointing that out. It completely slipped my mind to do some comparison. Yes, the shroud bolts have a lock washer and the long bolts have a lock & big fender washer. The short has a smaller flat washer and I believe a lock washer. Thank You for all your help.

Don, Michael, or whom might know...

This bolt 122007 - what head mark are you using?

Note that this is used top center of the shroud to bracket on big block, sides to shroud and ...also the pencil brace at top to the inside of the headlamp pocket. Is it a flange head bolt or standard and is it zinc/cad or phos?

                  On this same topic...

454872 - for big block six are required top center bracket and sides, anyone have originals, like RSC's and were the phos, mine look like cad.

                  Pictures appreciated!

                    Ok
from this thread, showing the GM engineering standards page, the wrong bolt is highlighted,

                    the 122007 bolt>>>
                    3/4 length, cad zn , 5/16-18

Anyone know what the originals were?
