Re: GM Heritage Collection Sell-off
I am very suprised to see a presidential limo on the list. I didn't think that any presidential limos were ever sold to the public. Basically so that no one could take it apart and discover what type of armor, how thick, located in what places, how thick the glass, etc. and what other types of security measures were incorporated into the vehicle to protect the president.
I had heard that the secret service actually took the retired limos and destroyed them by shooting rockets and high caliber amo at them just to determine how well the earlier designs worked.
I heard that the limo was based on a P-truck chassis. Spindles and linkage had to survive 20? mph impacts into curbs. They had to scrounge up 500 cubic inch Cadillac service blocks for motivation. Nixon's driveway had to be rebuilt in order to support the weight of his limo.
