Subject: Ford, Chrysler and GM's 9/11 Contributions

I think this is worthy of noting in this global market place we are all in. Maybe our Congress needs to be reminded of this.

    Re: Interesting Big 3 Reminder

    Dennis,
Very interesting. I received these two e-mails (the first one is the same one you had) from a friend of mine.
    Take care,
    Shooter

An interesting commentary...You might find this of interest:

CNN Headline News did a short news listing regarding Ford and GM's contributions to the relief and recovery efforts in New York and Washington following 9-11-01. The findings are as follows.....

    1. Ford- $10 million to American Red Cross matching employee contributions of the same number plus 10 Excursions to NY Fire Dept. The company also offered ER response team services and office space to displaced government employees.

    2. GM- $10 million to American Red Cross matching employee contributions of the same number and a fleet of vans, suv's, and trucks.

    3. Daimler Chrysler $10 million to support of the children and victims of the Sept. 11 attack.

    4. Harley Davidson motorcycles- $1 million and 30 new motorcycles to the New York Police Dept.

    5. Volkswagen-Employees and management created a Sept 11 Foundation, funded initially with $2 million, for the assistance of the children and victims of the WTC.

    6. Hyundai- $300,000 to the American Red Cross.

    7. Audi-Nothing.

    8. BMW-Nothing.

    9. Daewoo- Nothing.

    10. Fiat-Nothing.

    11. Honda- Nothing despite boasting of second best sales month ever in August 2001

    12. Isuzu- Nothing.

    13. Mitsubishi-Nothing.

    14. Nissan-Nothing.

    15. Porsche-Nothing. Press release with condolences via the Porsche website.

    16. Subaru- Nothing.

    17. Suzuki- Nothing.

    18. Toyota-Nothing despite claims of high sales in July and August 2001. Condolences posted on the website.

Whenever the time may be for you to purchase or lease a new vehicle, keep this information in mind. You might want to give more consideration to a car manufactured by an American-owned and or American based company. Apart from Hyundai and Volkswagen, the foreign car companies contributed nothing at all to the citizens of the United States ... It's OK for these companies to take money out of this country, but it is apparently not acceptable to return some in a time of crisis. I believe we should not forget things like this. Say thank you in a way that gets their attention..

And for all those naysayers that think foreign automakers are head and shoulders above the American automakers:

    http://www.jdpower.com/corporate/new...spx?ID=2008115

    2. As of August 2007, which manufacturer had the most recalled vehicles in the U.S. for that year?

Answer: Volkswagen. According to Business Week, Volkswagen had the most recalls at this time a year ago. The second worst was Toyota.

4.Which midsize sedan has the highest initial quality?

Answer: The Chevrolet Malibu has better initial quality than any competitor, including the Honda Accord, Toyota Camry and Nissan Altima. The Ford Fusion also beat all three Japanese competitors.
This too is from the J.D. Power Initial Quality Survey, which also reveals that above average are American brands Mercury, Ford, Cadillac, Chevrolet , Pontiac, Lincoln, and Buick. Below average are import brands Acura, Kia, Nissan, BMW, Mazda, VW, Subaru, and Scion (and several others).

    http://www.jdpower. com/corporate/news/releases/pressrelease.aspx?ID=2008063

    5. Which large sedan has the highest initial quality?

Answer: Again per J.D. Power, the highest quality large car is the Pontiac Grand Prix, beating the Toyota Avalon. Two other Detroit cars that beat the Avalon are the Mercury Sable and Mercury Grand Marquis.
    http://www.jdpower.com/autos/article...and-Large-Cars

6.Which midsize pickup has the highest initial quality?

Answer: The Dodge Dakota has the best quality for midsize pickups, proving that Chrysler too can beat the imports. Both the Dakota and the Ford Ranger beat the Toyota Tacoma.
    http://www.jdpower.com/autos/article...ckups-and-Vans

    7. Which car is the most economical overall?

Answer: Per Edmunds.com, the premier automotive analysis site, the most economical car in America, taking into account not only mileage but all costs, is the Chevrolet Aveo. The Honda Fit is #3 and the Toyota Prius is a distant #34.
With spirited design, Cadillac's '08 CTS cuts past BMW, Lexus and the other luxury sports.

But I'm sure there are still PLENTY of Americans that despite the information in both these e-mails STILL won't be able to bring themselves to buy an automobile from an American automaker. Really sad.
