Thanks Cecil, couldn't find that information in archives. That pins down when the engine was produced, 1974 era. Thanks to all for information, would be impossible without you!

Interesting....than maybe this should be decoded, I have gotten a TON of different answers about it, and still not sure.

That's a good example of the "supplemental" CE coding (after the engine plant ran beyond the original assigned block of numbers) - the 5/50 engine warranty ran FAR higher than originally projected (which is why it only lasted for five years and was cancelled).

When they went past "CE" #49,999 at Flint V-8 (they started at #20,000), they added the "A" character after the digit for the year it was produced and started the numbering system over again.

Yup, my earlier post had a typo for the block casting date - should have been 1974, not 1964 (can't edit the original post now).

Interesting....so that means they produced A LOT of bad engines, or people had a very good time abusing them!
