Should the LF ignition shielding piece for a late '68 SB have a hole for the temp sensor? My '68 AIM shows a piece w/hole as do several catalogs, while other catalogs show a piece without a hole. I recently ordered this piece from a major vendor and got one without a hole. Makes it kinda difficult to route the sensor wire...

All 1968-E70 Corvettes which were equipped with radios had the left front RF shield with a hole in it. No doubt about that, at all. Any left front shield without a hole in it is for a pre 68 application. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: '68 L79 Ignition Shielding
Joe, one more question: I dug through some old parts last night and found a shielding piece w/hole -- when I positioned it as I did the other pieces, above the spark plug inner shields, there was no way it would fit. The only way I could get it up against the exhaust manifold bolts is to position it so that it slides in beneath the top of the inner shield, but that definitely doesn't look or feel right.- Top

Does the SPARK PLUG HEAT SHIELD on your engine have the hole in it for temp sender wire? If it does, there's no way you'll ever get the RF shield with the hole over it.
If you have the "standard" type spark plug heat shield (i.e. without the hole), it's possible to get the RF shield on over it, but the fit will be terrible. I found that I had to slightly modify the RF shield to obtain even a half way decent fit. How the factory originally made it fit, I don't know. I suspect they did it with the engine out of the car. My car definitely was originally built with the "standard" heat shield and with the RF heat shield with the hole over it.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
