    Clutch pedal repair

My 65 clutch padel is loss on the cross shaft, and when I push it in it moves to the left besides moving down, what is the best way to remove it to install new bushings ? Is there anyone out there that would be willing to help me on how to get this repair done?

Thanks again all for the great help on the last few posts

Butch -- I had almost the same symptoms on my '65, but the shaft weld was cracked where it entered the pedal. Got a lot of good advice on the DB, but unfortuately, for other reasons -- my case only [probably thanks to UAW Bubbas], it wasn't that simple, and I ended up taking my instrument panel out and removing the entire clutch/brake pedal assembly (backing off master cylinder, unbolting assy from firewall and birdcage back of instr. panel). So I've got myself an early winter project (-30 deg C [-22 F] outside this morning, so I'll take my time .

Wayne, pretty sure I've done this years ago without removing the instrument cluster housing?? Maybe I just removed some of the lower screws on the housing and pulled the bottom back a bit?? Can't remember for sure.

I recall making the same repair on my (bought-new) '65 many years ago, and I didn't have to remove the cluster - just pulled the steering column and loosened the cluster screws enough to pull the bottom of the cluster rearward about an inch, so the rear edge of the pedal support would clear it on the way out.

John & Michael -- I agree; that was my plan too, but one of the 2 bolts holding the clutch/brake pedal assembly to the birdcage bar was stripped in place. I can just visualize a St.Louis line worker pulling the trigger on his air wrench until the bolt spun like in butter; the '65 AIM calls for 10-15 ft.lbs [the plant summer '65 vacation began the next day ]. As the threads at the tip of the bolt were already through the tack-welded nut, I couldn't back it out. Had to remove the instr. panel for this unexpected situation. Drilled the head off the bolt, and am hoping I can extract upwards (so far, no luck). Trouble is, you can't see what you're doing, as the bircage 3-sided channel opens towards the firewall -- have to use a mirror .
