    New camshaft installation

What are the recommendations for installing a new hydraulic camshaft in a new big block engine (427-390 horsepower)? Looking for tips on cam break in, should lifters be soaked in oil prior to installation, cam lube for break in, etc etc. Any and all suggestions / advice requested.

Thanks in advance for your help.

    Rex,

When using a new flat tappet hydraulic cam, I have always had success following the cam manufacturers recommendations regarding installation and break in. Most cam manufacturers have detailed instructions on their web sites.

      Rex,
I also follow the manufacturer procedures. One item to add though. You will want an oil additive from a cam manufacturer (Crane, Comp Cams, Etc.) for additional lubrication and protection of the lobes in that critical first 20-30 minutes.

        Rex,

One other thing, check the archives. I'm sure you will find some great information there from some very experienced engine builders that frequent this forum.
