    FW wheel?

I just got a correct spare AG wheel for my 68 . Now the question -what was that old FW one for? It has by the valve stem K 1 7 7 the valve and then FW. I was told that this was a Monte Carlo wheel but they were not around in 67. Also on the inside it has K 1 with a 7 below that and then 15X7 JJ. Any ideas? Never mind, I just found some on Ebay and they were being sold as Camaro Ralley wheels so that is probably what the FW's are for.
    Thanks
    Dale

    Re: FW wheel?

Most likely a service replacement Monte Carlo wheel manufactured in 1977.

      Dale,

Probably a 1977 replacement wheel. I don't know FW code but I bet it's in the archives.

Agree -- the FW coded wheel first appeared in 1971 Monte Carlo; last shows in 1975 on Chevelle and Monte Carlo (at least in the Colvin CBTN book that I have). I suppose if Chevelles and MC's continued past 1975, then the FW might have still been available as a production item.

The "FW" coded wheel was never originally used on any Camaro or Corvette. It was known as GM #3997899 and was used on certain 1971 through 1977 "A" body Chevrolets with 15 X 7 rally wheels, including some Chevelles and Monte Carlos.

The GM #3997899 also replaced, for SERVICE, the YH-coded wheels used for later 1969 Z-28 Camaros and all 1969 Camaros with the 4 wheel disc brake option, JL8. The YH-coded wheels were known as GM #3970531 and were replaced for SERVICE by the 3997899 in February, 1972.

Incidentally, the YH-coded wheels replaced the AD-coded wheels used for earlier 1969 Z-28's, but were not used for any 1969 Camaros with the 4 wheel disc option. The AD-coded wheels were known as GM #3966934 and were replaced for SERVICE by the 3970531 in May, 1969.

The FW-coded wheels, GM #3997899, were discontinued without supercession in May, 1990.

I think that's pretty much the whole story.
