    Correct.

How much differance is there typically between body build date (cowl tag) and final assembly?

I thought the Birthday Calculators were suppose to estimate final assembly date as calculated from the VIN but that's a big spread in my case.

    (but I'm digressing)

We don't know the true answer to the how many days question, but we estimate 1.5 to 3 days depending on weekend or weekday -- longer if a holiday. Remember Holidays were at different times than what we are used to also.

Birthday calculators are mathematical calculations based on Chevrolet's end of month, or on the better ones end of week, numbers. Where did Chevrolet take those numbers? We don't know, but one former St. Louis employee (now deceased) told me that the point at which they counted the car complete changed over time.

So we are starting with numbers that came from a place we know not; what are we to wind up with? What’s the computer expression? “Garbage in .....”

At least for the early C3s the trim tag went on at the same place, but even that changed for the later C3s with the painted trim tags. So even the trim tag attachment point changed over time.

      Ready to give up?

Yours should be easy though. Dec 18, 1969, was a Thursday. Your car had to be finished either Friday or Saturday. The next day there are dated trim tags is A05 = January 5 and those were 1970 Corvettes.

The calculators show Dec 31 because you car is so close to the Chevrolet supplied end of month number 38,762. The dumb computer doesn't know that St. Louis stopped production for the Holiday break and model change over mid-way through the month. Garbage in .....

All Good stuff, I'm soaking it up like a sponge.

I'll stick with simply, "last day of production" then.

        Thanks

To add to the mix here, My car has a A13 trim tag, and a V0123CTH engine stamp. Is that truly a 10 day difference? Seems very odd to me.
I will supply a photo of the engine stamp if you really need to see it.

Someone Who Wore Diapers In 63 Probably Is Not An Old Fart.

                Bob B.;

I think we original 63 buyers should be in a thread (league) all our own. Our club is probably quite small now, and getting smaller. Mine is a July 9 (Tuesday Morning), 1963 build. I haven't got the time pinned down, but I think it was after the first coffe break, judging by the spill on the carpeting (guy used cream and sugar too).. When did you order yours?
Mine was ordered on April 10th, and I took delivery on August 16th (yes there were waiting lists for our babies). Dealers were getting mark ups then, but I lucked out to have a friend who's Mom knew the dealer well in a Wisconsin town, and he was willing to sell me one at his cost + from his allocation. It was worth the waiting for and the keeping.

We no longer call ourselves Old Farts as the aroma is long gone!

I have got #2239 built 1/29/70. I only have it since 2001 but at 60 I guess I qualify as an old fart.

                      You've got a Jan 13th car with a Jan 23rd engine?
