63 lower plug wire loom.....got carried away

The 63 needed a new battery a few weeks ago, well one thing led to another. You know the drill.

I'm putting things back together after a engine bay cleanup, and the lower right plug wire loom is the question. The AIM/JG isn't clear about description.

Should it be like the one on the left photo with the openings on both sides, or the right photo with openings facing in one direction(fwd). Left is marked "PR" on back, right is marked "AR" on back. I'd say PR is Paragon? What's AR? Right side came off the car.

Either way yes it should be cad/zinc plated, with rubber coating at the ends

    Thanks,
    Rich

The support on the left appears to be an original GM #3864498. This support was used for the right side lower position for 1965-74.

The support on the right looks like a "reproduction" of a GM #3744405 which was used from the C1 era through 1964 for the right side lower position. However, I thought the 3744405 was finished just like the 3864498. In other words, zinc plated with a black plastic "coating" on the plug wire end. The one in the picture looks like it's just painted semi-gloss black. I suppose it's possible originals were like this but it's not how I recall them.

Hi Joe, Thanks for the info!

The one I took off the car was the one in right photo. It seemed like the one in the AIM. I painted semi gloss black, but it was likely cad or zinc before as you said. It had a few dimples of rubber on it so it must have been coated but fell off over time. I'll "silver" it and "re-rubber" the end and use it.

        Thanks,
        Rich

The 3744405 was not a common-usage item on C-1's--it was used only on RPO242 cars. All other C-1's had road draft tubes, and the lower right had a split bracket that accepted the 4-hole rubber grommet for the plug wires.
