66 coupe interior color

I am working on a 66 coupe and need some help with the interior trim colors The trim tag indicates code 414 which is bright blue, the question is what components are bright blue and what if any are dark blue ? Specifically if the trim pieces Around the rear window, doors, windshield pillar are bright blue would the dash be dark blue or bright blue and what color would the headliner be bright blue or dark blue? also what color would the radio panels be? thanks

Hi Howard
All of your interior components were intended to be the same shade of Bright Blue (with some slight variations). No "Dark Blue".
The real difference is in the amount of gloss, or lack of it on certain components.
Several specific references recently on this topic in the archives.

The problem I am having is the car (66) I am working on has a dark blue dash, a replacement dark blue headliner, and all the trim pieces bright blue. The trim codes call for 414 bright blue vinyl. I expected that all the trim, dash, radio panels, door panels, seat covers, sun visors and headliner would be bright blue with the lower windshield trim a bit darker but not dark blue. The dash is out of the car and appears to have never been repainted, however, it doesn't mean it was original to the car either. there could have been a swap somewhere along the way. Comments?

I have seen so few 66 bb interiors that I cant comment for sure on those, but 67 had a darker blue on the lower windshield trim, the center dash, the radio panels. The dash eye brows are more like the bb color, but even it is not exactly the same. It is a little darker. And the carpet was much darker than the normally suppled reproduction blue.

I think there was a couple of reasons for this. One, there was a conscious effort to darken, flaten and tone down reflections in the windshield area. Thus the darker and flatter colors there. Second, these parts came to the factory from different suppliers, they were made of different materials, and were painted or dyed in different places with different materials. This resulted in what you see in the finished product.

It is funny, back in `82 or so at a NCRS event, I lost a bunch of points because nothing in my interior matched. It was 100% original. The judge had a cow because I complaned to the head judge. But, he liked the car next to it that had a complete AK interior in it that was 100% reproduction. He even pointed it out and said, mine should be like that.

All that has been said is true.
Howard your last comments are right on.
It sounds like you may have Dark Blue components. (Trim Code 418, if I recall)
I just looked again at a 20M mile '67 coupe and all the components were quite close, including some of the slight variations that Wayne and I eluded to.
Could you post pics of all the components in question for comparison?
FWIW
Corvettes were fairly close in their interior components compared to the other manufacturers of the day.
For example, look at an original red interior of a '67 Mustang.
If there are 27 components, each piece would be a different shade of red ranging from orange to burgandy.

Howard, I have a 66 with Bright Blue interior and what Wayne described for 67 is exactly as mine is. If I remember correctly, the JM describes the various colors correctly also.

Thanks guys: I think we are going to go with the complete bright blue intereior. I expect that we will get variations in shade and gloss depending on the trim pieces and textures. I don't like the look of the bright blue trim pieces and the dark blue dash and headliner. The owner doesn't care that much because he doesn't expect to have it judged. However I tried to convince him to go with the complete interior in bright blue which matches the trim tag code of 414. You never know when he may wish to sell the car and someone looking to buy may want to have it judged. Again thanks for your comments. By the way there were three 66 Nassau blue coupes with blue interiors on e-bay one had the entire interior bright blue, one was all dark blue and the third was a combination of bright blue and dark blue. go figure!!!!!
