    77 Rochester Carb Rebuild

    Hi All,
    First the good news. If you were ever looking for a way to clean a carb without using the typical chemical soups - Pine Sol is fantastic. You still need to work it a little with a toothbrush but it's great.

    I do have an obscure question though. The carb rebuild kit comes with a needle/seat assembly that is a bit different from original. The original is a solid cylinder while the kit seat has slots cut in the sides. If I am seeing correctly the diameter for the needle hole is also slightly larger in the kit which suggests I could not simply use the needle and keep the original seat.

    Was the seat changed to allow fuel to flow in more quickly into the bowl. Has anyone made this change or is it a bad idea.

    Thanks for the guidance.

      Might your kit have a Tomco Inlet Valve instead of a Needle/Seat? Eckler's recently sold me a kit for an AFB that had the Tomco Valves. I had previous experience with them with Quadrajets, and they seem to work OK. They use a plunger and a Viton disc, and yes they are slotted around the sides and do flow more fuel. They are usually assembled into a form where the plunger and disc are captive.

        Hi Stu

        The plunger/needle is identical to original and has virtually the same little wire spring at top, so I would not have called it captive. The seat cylinder is also virtually identical save for the slots cut out the sides near the bottom. I have never seen a Tomco design so I have no frame of reference.

          Michael;

          You're good to go with what you have, as already stated. I just thought I'd mention that possibility as the Tomco Valves (considered a more premium piece) have been showing up in some generic kits of late. These kits come from all over (asia) so you never know what you will get, but usually all the parts are good.
