'Another time, Spring of '77 and I had my '77 L-82 since October, long enough to remove the cat, smog pump, install a full dual exhaust, advance the cam and distributor, etc. I was transferred form Richmond, IN to Connersville, IN about 20 miles away. First day of work there and I left Centerville on US 40, looked in the mirror after passing the city limit sign by a 1/4 mile or so and kicked it since no one was behind me or in front. After a couple of miles I saw a flashing red well behind me. I pulled over and waited. The city cop asked me what I was doing and I told him going to work---first day on new job. Since he had lost sight of me over a couple of rises and did not get my plate # I felt pretty safe. He went to his car, got on the radio and returned. He told me to hold it down and that a State Policeman would be ahead to make certain I did. Within 15 miles 5 Indiana State Police cruisers got behind me and followed me to my new job.
My new boss was standing outside and asked why the police followed me into the parking lot. I just smiled and he told me of an alternative route to work. The new route did not have long straights but it did have twisties to try out my Greenwood Konis and Guldsrand springs.
The best story is yet to come
