    70 Thermostat Housing

Should a 70 sb have the pn stamped on the flange and have the little tab off to the side?

    Thanks,

    Bill

    Hi Bill,
Have you taken a peek at the Archives?
There is quite a bit of discussion about the housing TAB, WELLS, and PART # PLACEMENT. There's also some good information about which were used in production and which were used for service.
Much of the information is from Joe L.
Perhaps you can check it out if you don't get a further reply here.
    Regards,
    Alan

Bill unless I not seeing the numbers correctly, my original owner 70 350/300 thermostat housing has GM 3972128 numbers. Still has its original paint and the filler neck where the hose fits is not painted. A hose would fit over the painted part and not show the unpainted part.
My 70's housing does not have a tab.

The GM #3972128 was a PRODUCTION-only thermostat housing used alternatively to the GM #3877660 during the 70-72 period. The only functional or significant configurational difference between the two thermostat housings is that the 3972128 does not have the accelerator spring anchor tab and the 3877660 does have the tab. Of course, the tab is not required for any Corvette application.

Thanks for the information Joe. My 70 was built in July, don't know when Bill's 70 350/350 was built.
