65 ti amp module
hi guys i know this has been discussed in detail but i can not find information on the actual mounting location of the ti amp module ... i am looking for measurements from reference points on its exact location i have searched the data base with no luck .. thanks for any help given Don...

Don,
Check your AIM - know its in mine (64) Also note there may be a difference depending upon option (at least in 64 there is).
What screws do you have for the mounting of the Amp? Do you have a pn in the AIM. -

Not sure about '65, but for 1967 it is spelled out in the K66 section of the AIM.

John -- although he didn't specify, I believe Donald is referring to his 396. Nevertheless, it seems that your AIM dimension source also applies to the '65 BB rad support ( ie. outboard 1.00" from the center shroud bolt, and 0.50" up). Pic below is of my 396.
P.S. thanks for confirming YMW dating format on my horns; the '65 TIM&JG says YMD, and even quotes an example [5C2 = 1965, March 2]

thanks wayne for the pic ... i'm sorry i missread the page in the aim and i thought that L76/L79 ti amp mounting was different from L78.. are there specific head markings on your bolts wayne ???? as i just recieved my wiring harness order in the mail and i am ready to install it .. another question i am ready to test run the whole ti assembly on the eengine before i itstall the boby back on the frame does the ti amp need to be grounded other than by the wiring to the left outer bolt to operate without damageing any thing ??? and to wayne midkiff is it possible for us to meet one day i have many more questions for you about 65 big block cars ...??and as usual thanks for everyones help>>Don..Comment

Donald,
Don't even think of hooking that TI Amp up without grounding it to the motor or radiator support. Not grounding it may mean you will be buying another. At least, it should not start the car without ground.

on a corvette the black wire with the eyelet is the ground and make sure to remove any paint from the amp where this eyelet is bolted so you have good contact. most corvettes the amp just uses thru bolts in the fiberglass and these work loose so i tell owners to use nuts on the back side of the amp and then bolt it thru the fiberglass as this way the ground will not work loose. not NCRS correct but saves the amps. tin cars don't need the extra ground wire like a corvette because the core support is groundedComment

The mounting screws, 9419245, any one have some information on these???
The 64 Amp used the same screws to mount the Amp to the right angle shelf with a 121753 external star washer under them. And for the application of the 64 Amp mounted directly, again that same 9419245 & washer was used. I would assume that the 9419245 screw is the same as the 9415499 (mounts rt angle plate to rad support) BUT is a little longer. Bet its a 1/4" self taping, BT point, cadmium, and 3/4 - 7/8 long.

Alan -- Let me stick my neck out here; I'm not saying these screws in the pic are same as factory original, but they gotta be darn close. They come in a mounting kit with connectors, terminals for the transistorized volt regs, which have EXACTLY the same mounting pattern and 'legs' as the amp box. These are 1.0" long (from under bolt head to tip). the tip is not a thread cutting type (per '65 TIM&JG), but slightly tapered -- I checked them in both my 396 and L76 K66 cars' holes and the thread is the same as for the orignals (long gone). I have 3 of these sets and the screws are identical.
I checked the P&A30 (July 30 1965 Rev.) and the 9419245 is not there.Comment

Sounds reasonable, since GM used the same screw to hold the horn relay and the right angle Amp bracket, then the longer screws, 9419245, to hold Amp on. Picture of horn relay screw! The antenna screw is different, was unable to edit picture - plan to take another picture and correct
We know the Amp in 64 which was mounted directly to rad support used the same screws as the mounting for the 65 Amp, 9419245, confirmed by AIMs. So if you check what screws are listed for " transistorized volt regs" is that the number listed? Where these mounted in 65 to the rad support? (PS - 64AIM shows the voltage reg mounted on inner fiberglass fender well, but never seen one of these)
From what I've been finding most of these screws, washers, nuts, . . are not listed in the P&A if it's missing the Gr 8.900 stuff - now I'm sticking my neck out because I have no idea if such is true just a feeling.
The screws look good to me, however it would be nice if somebody had a TI Amp mounted to rad support on an original car.

Alan -- The T.I. volt reg 1116368 seems to show up in only the 1965 and 1966 AIMs, although AFAIK it was never used in the '66 MY. In '65, I believe it was mounted on the same holes as was the regular 1119515 volt reg.; ie. forward on the inner driver side fender. The '65 AIM shows it only in the K66 section, sheets 2 and 3 (view B), but its in the wrong position -- driver & engine side of the rad support (almost opposite where the T.I. amp box would be on a L76 or L79 air car). Shows mounting screws # 9420065 -- don't know why it would differ from the 9419245.
The '66 AIM (K66) shows the '368' VR in regular use, with the '515' for air cars [oposite to what you'd expect from 1965]. Ref K66 Sht. A2, mounted with regular production nut 3876130 (rubber w/brass threaded insert), but special screw 9423672 (maybe same as production 3876129, but longer).
Then in 1967, in K66 section A2 they deleted the '368' and call only for regular production VR. Notes show the '515' VR is to be mounted with production screws and nuts and all reference to the '66 stuff was removed. ie. no special treatment for '67 VR's with T.I. or T.I. plus C60.
There's a road test magazine photo of an early 396 with the transistorized volt reg, mounted on the fender.
Pic below is of a '378_B' on my '65 C60 / K66. Obviously the wrong screws but they were long enough to engage with the stock special nut. I've heard others say that this VR bolts directly to the fiberglass (ie. no anti-shock nuts). Notice the three original T.I. amp box holes on the rad sup't.

For the screws/external star lock washer which mounts the right angle plate to the radiator support (Plate holds the Amp), pn 9415499, is the animal you need. I'm going to order 26-33A from Long Island which are for the 1963 voltage regulator, but look correct.
Recall the voltage reg screw is the same part number (9415499) as the Amp support in 1964. (Info from 64 AIM) Those Amps mounted directly to the Radiator Support use screw number 9419245 which seem to be as shown in an above photo.Comment
