Does anyone out there have a good picture showing where the headlight washer hoses were cut off after s/n 3600? The TIMJ guide states "near the master cylinder or horn relay". Are the cut ends taped to the vacuum lines? Thanks in advance.

Re: '71 headlight washer hoses
Hi Doug
To answer the second part of your question... on my 71, #6589, the portion of the hoses that remained were in the taped stack of vacuum hoses that ran forward to the headlight system.
As to the first part of your question I'm sorry I don't have an original picture but I remember the cut as being a little closer to the cowl than the horn relay, and just before the stack went through the core support.

Re: '71 headlight washer hoses
Thanks, Alan. My car is #5525. Since it has holes in the headlight bezels for headlight washer nozzels, and since headlight washers are shown in the AIM, I assumed headlight washers were correct for my car. When I restored the headlights and vacuum system I put the headlight washer system back as well.....Then I read the TIMJ. Oh well!- Top

Re: '71 headlight washer hoses
Hi Dan,
My 71, #6589, has 2 bezels with 2 'backward D' shaped holes in the vertical area between the high and low beams.
If you dont get a nice picture from someone, let me know and I'll make a little template for you if you think your nozzels should be in that vertical area.

Re: '71 headlight washer hoses
If you need to put in nozzles, and you don't have the holes, I'd seriously consider finding a set of headlight valances with the holes already in place.
Why?
As Alan notes, they install in a D-shaped hole. This would be most difficult to copy and get it correct. In addition, in looking for metal headlight valences without the holes (my late 71 doesn't need them) I did see many of them available at swap meets with holes already present. If you have a metal set, and no holes, I'd bet you could get nearly an even trade for them.
If you have replacement pieces made of fiberglass, then do whatever you want because they're very common and fiberglass is easy to repair. Pot metal, however, is not.

Re: '71 headlight washer hoses
You can search the archives for this one. I had this discussion a few years back as to the different hole locations on the bezels. The early pieces had the lower hole on the horizontal flat with the other on the verticle between the lights.
Anyone with the early ones knows how much fun they are remove. The later version with the holes both on the verticle made removal a snap. Think it was once again one of those late 70-71 changes. I'll see if I can find my post.
Found the thread.....
