I have recently bought an original set of DG rally wheels for my 1967 convertible, which I want to properly restore and put on my car. I took them to a local, reputable auto body shop who does Corvette work (he has a '62 and a '66). He told me that there is no true Argent Silver anymore, and that each aftermarket house makes up their own formula, correct or not -- I thought that either Dupont or PPG has made this color over the years, and that the formula is still available. He suggests powder coating instead of paint for durability. He does not do powder coating, but said that he would prepare and paint them if I can find a correct color. Can anyone give me some direction for what I thought was going to be a quick and simple job? I planned on having them bead blasted, painted, and clear coated as a fairly simple project. Thanks for any information that you can provide.

Hey Joe, Scroll down to the bottom of the the thread, you will see "similar" very helpful threads previously asked on your topic. I didn't read them but .............. Try the search feature as well, I know the formula has been posted before.

Re: Rally wheel paint
I used the following formula:
Makes 1 qt
Color Units (non-comulayive)
DMR 433 416
DMR 435 420
DXR 495 20
DMR 499 160
Had Tower paint in Oskosh, WI mix it and put it in an Aerosol can for meas it could not be done in California due to air quality restrictions.
I have painted the spare wheel of my 69 with this paint. It has only been judged at the local level in Soutern California without a deduct but never at a higher level of competition.
Argent Silver is a color that has changed through the years.
I hope this helped.- Top

As has been mentioned, "argent silver" varied. In fact, not only did it vary over time, it varied within a given model year. The original "argent silver" on the wheels of my original owner, late build 1969 was considerably darker than that used on many other 69's including the original owner early 69 belonging to a friend of mine. Believe me, you won't EVER find an off-the-shelf "argent silver" that will come anywhere close to the original color on my wheels. However, both mine and my friend's had the "greenish" tint common to 68-70 models.
In any event, the best "argent silver" I've found is that available from OEM Paints (www.oempaints.com). They even have the "standard argent silver" as well as the "greenish tint" version. Their products are expensive, though. Good things usually are.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
