    Carb stud installation

Should the carb studs be installed with a thread sealer or Loctite, or do they go in dry? This is an aluminium manifold on a L79. Thanks!

Don't know if they need any sealer but you probably should use some anti-sieze..

Agree with Ken.....use a bit of anti-seize on each stud where it contacts the aluminum. At a minimum, lightly oil before installing.

If you don't "intend" to remove them, use an anti-seize or thread lubricant for the purpose of installation ease and draw them in fully, i.e. plain shank and fine threads above the flange surface (snug).

I have had my studs in and out 3 or 4 times and changed lengths several times in the last few months as I have been experimenting with different spacers to limit a carb percolation problem. My current studs are 1-3/4" long and allow for 1-1/4" above the flange. But, because I need at least 1-5/16" so I can use flat washers, I used a new set of studs w/o lubricant so they fit tight and allow me to adjust the installed length to 1-5/16".
