Does anyone know what kind of point deduction I could expect if I use Pertronix ignition rather than points on a 67 L79. I have the correct distributor, cap, Coil,and vacume advance on the car. As far as I know the only visual difference are the wires to the coil. Thanks.

Re: Pertronix vs Points
The line item for "distributor, cap, and vacuum advance" is allocated 15 originality points. Presence of a Pertronix unit instead of breaker points means that the points are "missing"; I'd probably take two points for distributor configuration and completeness, others may differ.- Top

Re: Pertronix vs Points
Tom,
Driving our 67 to the national several years ago with a Pertronix breakerless ignition inside the completely stock distributor resulted in no deduction (as I recall). The internal points aren't present but they also aren't visible and the only external evidence was the additional brown wire which the judges did ask about. Results may vary from year to year and meet to meet but it isn't a significant deduction. Installing the breakerless ignition was a worthwhile change for driveability - just one opinion.

Re: Pertronix vs Points
Arland;
I second the opinion on the Pertronix. I use the II with the 12 volt input so I try to hide a jumper wire around the back of my ballast resistor. It is a black wire and is seldom noticed. Sure don't miss having to change plugs every time I get held up in a little in town traffic. It will pull red line every time right out of town.
