65 dash rivets

can someone tell me a good suplier of the correct rivets to install the dash pnl to the A pillar ... and can somone post a pic of the area in question to shoiw me the paint diferentialbetween the exteroir color and the dash color thanks Don...

The rivets were a black anodized "pop" rivet, I haven't needed to purchase same so I can't comment on suppliers, but the paint on the tabs (and rivets as necessary) depended on the inter/exterior color combination. If the interior and exterior were contrasting colors (red/black for example) the dash "tab" where attached to the jamb would have been given a quick coat of body color paint with the vinyl surfaces masked from the paint, thus the paint would match in shade and texture the door jamb area. If the dash area was a similar color (blue-blue for example) The secondary painting process was not used, and the tab would match in shade and texture the paint in the center of the dash area, with the black rivets being exposed and of course black. The major difference is in the shade and gloss level of the paints used for the dash (flatter) as compared to the gloss level of the exterior color.

yes Bill the car is red with black interior ... so the extended area of the dash with pad installed was painted ,then rivets installed... so from a poor masking of the dash pad would there be overspray on the pad it self ???thanks Don....

Yes, we have seen some erratic masking lines leaving some overspray on the edges of the dash pads on some original cars.

Rivets in your case would have been painted with the end tab. Black rivets are only seen in black where the interior and exterior color match, red-red or blue-blue or Black-Black or similar.

Don -

The fiberglass instrument panel was painted interior color separate from the body, then it was subassembled off-line (including the eyebrow pads, speaker, defroster outlet and duct, etc.) and installed in the body with the five rivets on each end.

If the interior and exterior colors contrasted, the ends of the pads were masked off and the end tabs (and rivets) were painted body color in Final Paint Repair after the car came off the Final Line.
