    I'll be there trying to figure out how to convert a dry sump motor, in my race car now, to a wet sump motor that will stay togehter in vintage racing. Jerry

      i would think a good road race pan and a accusump would work. no one sells a swinging pickup any more that we used when the BB corvette first came out. yenko sold them but i have no idea who made them. the biggest problem with wet sump engines is getting the oil back down to the pan in the corners as the "G" forces hold the oil up in the rocker covers. i would suggest oil return lines from the rocker covers to the oil pan.

        Jerry, Milodon makes a pan, 31305, that works pretty good for road racing. It has multiple trap doors to control oil in the pan. Like Clem said, the valve cover drain hoses will help quite a bit.

          Thanks guys. That's helpful. Do you run the valve cover oil drains from the side of the rocker covers or the fronts or backs? Also, any advice on what to replace my roller rocker valve train with? I need to go back to stock design rockers. Jerry

            even on my BBC circle track engines i used a road race wet sump pan and it worked well. i also over filled the pan 1 quart to allow for what stayed "upstairs" in the engine at speed as BBC engines have a lot of internal oil leaks. i even had to do that on my street driven 66 427 corvette to keep the oil pressure from falling off at 6500 RPM because the oil was not returning to the pan quick enought.

              i would put the rocker drains in the outside rear corners of the covers so the "G" forces allow the oil to run back to the pan. if you run "stock" type rockers DO NOT restrict the oil to them as you will need all you can get and also use "piddle" valve lifters as they allow more oil to the rockers. when i used after market oil pans i would set the pan on a level surface and using a quart measure i would put kerosene into the pan 1 quart at a time till i reached a level 1/2" below the bottom the windage tray and then add 2 quarts to the figure as the amount to put into the engines. if the pan has a "dip stick" i marked it on the stick while on the bench full of kerosene. the rockers are going to be a problem as i do not know of any ones out there that are as good as the original GM one where. they have cut down on the number of stampings the use to make the rockers and this had hurt the quality. if you are going to use heavier than stock valve springs i would "break" in the rockers just like a cam with lighter springs till the parts "wear" in and put moly kote on the balls and rockers for the "break" in. try and find rocker made for the 7/16" rocker studs if you can or i would use a stud girdle of some type. also to make sure the oil does not over shoot the rockers. crane sells what they call "kool nuts" which help with getting the oil to the rockers. have fun !!!!

                these look like they may be a good rocker arm. http://www.cranecams.com/pdf/Page592.pdf i would polish the edges of the stud slot with a dermal tool to make sure there are rough areas to cut into the rocker stud. notice the limits on the spring pressure

                      OK fellows, I'll ask the dumb question: What is the PRI show all about? I live here in Orlando and I'm not aware of any events on those dates. Is it a private thing, or can any old car jocky attend?

                          Thanks. I checked out the web site and it does say you have to be a member of the PRI, i.e. owner or employee, etc. (not open to the general public kind of thing). I could probably find a way to get myself in, but I respect their criteria and a GM retiree probably won't cut it.

                              Thanks for the offer, but last time I wore a wig it itched like crazy!

                              Sure does sound like a good show though - right up there with the SEMA show, only more precise to the interests of us old Hot Rodders.
