    Jack identification - 68 /early 69

I am helping a friend regarding the jack for his 69 and would like to verify this jack is the correct one. I believe it likely is based upon reading the 68-69 JG, but I am more familiar with the larger design jack that my 71 uses.

Also, any idea how long into the 69 year that the earlier design was used?

Did they basically carry over the same design from mid-years into 68/early 69 and then change design?

Here are some pics. Thanks in advance.

    HI Brad
The jack in the pic is for a August 68. Not for a 69. The 69's used the same large configuration jack as your 71, I have seen some very early 69 jacks dated late 68 like J K L 8. The jack as you pictured is also the same configuration for a 67 jack. But this one is dated H8. Hope this helps. Grant

      Grant,

This does answer the majority of my question in that it confirms this jack is designed consistent with that used in 68 and verified that this design is same as used in 67.

In the comment that you have seen jacks of J 8, K 8, L 8 of this design, does that mean that the early design basically was used throughout calender year 68 (and thus would apply to those 69s produced in calendar year 68)?

        Hi Brad
The comment about the J K or L 8 stamping is referring to an early 69 jack. The 69 jack is the big one as pictured on the right. Same shape and form as your 71. The left is a 68 or same configuration as a 67 Jack.

Those 69 jacks with early date codes are very hard to find.
        Thanks, Grant

I have no information that the 63-68 style jack was ever supplied with a 1969 Corvette. However, I would not rule out the possibility. I have a friend that's the original owner of his relatively early build 1969 and his has the 1969 style jack and I'm 100% certain it's original to the car. His car was built in October, 1969, though, so it's possible that some 69's built earlier might have had the 63-68 style. Personally, I doubt it, though.

By the way, if I had a 1963-68 Corvette that I DROVE, I'd look for a 1969-79 jack and install it in the car. I'd put the correct jack in the car only if I decided to have it judged (it's pretty easy to change out jacks). The 69-79 style jack is much heavier duty and more stable than the earlier style. You don't think that GM changed the design in 1969 because the earlier style was just as good, do you?
