    Flexible scope source

I know that I'm the only one with this problem, but I can't bend and twist as easily as I once could. This makes checking out numbers in hidden places more challenging. Anyone know of a source for flexible view scopes that can be bent and placed in tough places so that I can see hidden numbers and problems that I can't see otherwise. Ideally there would be some light source as well.

I saw Ken Sleeper with one at the Chevy Vette fest last weekend. Check with the 1978-1982 Team Leader Brian P. through the contacts page and ask him where Ken got it and how much. Looked quite effective to me, but it kind of gave me shivers. It reminded me too much of a medical device I would rather forget.

Eastwood carries a couple different ones and everything is 10% off with free shipping through the end of the month.

Home Depot has them in the tool department for, if I remember correctly, < $200.

          Willard -

          http://www.ridgid.com/Tools/SeeSnake-micro/index.htm

I've used this camera @ work many times before doing internal inspections of piping systems. The resolution isn't too bad and it has a light. Check out the "micro explorer" on this web page - same features as above, but it also has a self contained digital camera.

          Isn't technology great?

Found this after I posted - at Home Depot for $199

            Willard:

I use one from Snap-On Tools. It is most helpful and runs about $400.

I've got the SeeSnake from Homedepot. It works well. You can't get into a sparkplug hole.
I've used it to check the inside of my frame for paint coverage when rebuilding my frame. I've also checked way up inside of my window frame sides thru' the rusted #2 mount hole in the channel.
Once advantage of using the camera type, is that you can buy extensions, whereas the optical ones you can't. Resolution is good enough to check for rust damage. You can also adjust the light intensity so that you can turn down the light so as not to over saturate the camera.

You can unplug the camera part as well. I'm sure if you want to get creative, you could make up your own cable. The cable that comes with it is stiff (as it should be) so that you can maneuver the head. But for checking tight corners, you may want a more flexable cable. The camera head is only just over an inch long and about 0.75 in dia.

I have both a regular, flexible bore-scope, and a really neat video style scope. I got the video scope from the Matco man, and believe it or not, it was cheaper than my flex scope was! You can plug this thing into a video recorder, or a TV monitor, as well as having a small screen on it. I get a much better view of what I'm looking at with the video scope.

Thanks guys. My wife now has her Christmas list for me all set. I sure hope Santa is good to me this year and takes pity on my stiff back.

If Santa's buying then here are some more choices.

I was trying to recall/find that Snap On tool we talked about sometime last summer...seemed like it was a mirror with light. Anyone recall it?
