    Washers on Adjust-Tension Alternator Bolt....

I have a '66 BB 427-450 HP early car. Can anyone tell me the correct washers used to lock the alternator adjustment for the belt? Currently it has the WB bolt, then an outside star washer, then a split lock washer, then a thicker flat washer. I cant believe that two types of locking washers is correct!

Larry, Look in the archives,we just had a discussion about this two weeks ago. From memory, the BB cars used a split lock washer but I could have it backwards. I definately know that two locks are not used.

Larry, It was said that BB had split locks and SB had star washers. This will save you a lot of looking. Dale

I thought that "star" washers are used where a good electrical connection is required rather than serving as a lock washer. Not correct?
          Best regards,

            Best regards,
IMHO we're adding to the lexicon of BB (lock washer) vs. SB (external toothed) supposed differences .

There's already ample grounding through the bottom front case bolt (to bracket to cylinder head) and via the ground wire in the alternator harness (to rear case).
