How do you decipher the date codes?

    Re: KO date codes?

There's an early vs. late issue here as the PN for the wheels changed in Feb of 65. Early wheels had the same PN as that used on '64 and those wheels were dated via rubber ink stamps. The date code takes no 'trick' to read/decipher as it's of the form "Mar 3 1964".

The late version of the wheels were embossed (stamped) and a typical code sequence would be "B43065" for April 30th, 1965.

Jack, does the "B" refer to the second or later wheel?

I don't know that we really do understand the alpha prefix... Might well be a 'pointer' to the physical mold the wheel was cast in by KH...

That would make sense, then QC could trace bad castings back to the mold.

THANKS for the replies. Would it be fair to say that an early '65 car would have wheels cast in '64 and may not show date codes as the ink has worn off. Also what month would be the cut-off for an early versus late car?

The earliest dates I have seen for date codes stamped into the wheel would be March of '65.
