    Paragon chrome exhaust tips

What is the NCRS judges opinion of Paragons 1970-1972 chromed stainless steel exhaust tips, part number 4819K? I have not physically seen these.

    Thanks,

No need for a magnet, you can see from 5 feet away if they're a current repop tip. Very thin gauge metal as compared to the originals.

I bought a pair off E-bay for a 73 and they were the same light metal as the SS one's with chrome plating. I payed about $65. for the pair. The point deduction will be about the same with or without the chrome. I agree with Mike no magnet needed this part is not close to an original exhaust tip.

There is a person on the Corvette Forum who swears one can't tell the difference between the originals and those chromed stainless steel ones that Paragon sells. I'm not willing to pay $164+ to find out they're not like originals. Here's how the Paragon description reads:

        Paragon Number: 4819K
        GM Part Number:
Exhaust extension kit, rear, S/S. Includes L.H. & R.H. extensions. Made like the original part with weld seams around rear of body and at bottom in center. NCRS judges are looking for these features and may deduct points if there are no welds present. All other aspects are the same as the original except the material.
        Years 1970 - 1972 Type: Stock
        Packaging: Kit
        Condition: New

All one has to do is to look at the guage of the metal on original ones and the reproductions. No magnets needed.

Paragon's are a repop...and its easy to see from five feet away. Not worth the $$$

LOL!!!....glad I wasn't drinking a Coke at the time I was reading this....I would have shot it out my nose....LOL!

It's easy to get hung up on the points issue...get what you like, I just gave my 2 cents worth after my hunt for perfect tips for my 72...they are out there you just have to look. Did I go with the Raragon tips?...No I didn't. What did I do?...I cleaned my originals up and stock them back on

Life is too short to chase down every little correct part and blow major $$$$ on it.

It's not a points issue. It is a correct issue. I know several of you have had your Corvettes go through the rigors of NCRS judging for various levels of awards and I congratulate those who have attained those both in over-restored Corvettes and original ones as well. I lean on the side of the original drivers, those Corvettes that get to see the roads on a frequent basis and not those who see the insides of a trailer on a more permanent basis. When I see Corvettes like the 50,000 actual mile 1972 yellow coupe in Fort Worth, Texas show sponsored by Cowtown Corvette and it is bone stock correct including correct OEM tips I am doubly impressed. My intent here is to draw attention toward correct, original tips and get opinions on the tips, not points. I don't think I even mentioned points on this post.

It appears that a post has been deleted between your original question and my response about 'not needing a magnet'. No idea where the post went or why it was deleted.

A post from you or someone else? The only ones I saw were yours and then Lyle's then mine, etc. Do you recall what the post was about and from whom?

That is a admirably goal a 100 percent correct driver in essences a new insert year here corvette. Even though you want be chasing points only dollar amounts you will have to ask what is the ultimate goal for the car. Just your personal satisfaction knowing that all the parts have the correct OEM nuances on them? Because I can guarantee that the average person want give a sh*t about OEM exhaust tips and could care less if your fuel pump has AC Delco cast in the side. But if that is what makes you happy then go for it.
And in your very first post you ask about what NCRS judges think, so if you not after points then why would you give a sh*t what they think. Because most if not all reproductions fail under those guidelines. If you really truly want a NOS corvette part then seek a NORS/ rebuilt restored part. And forget reproductions.

It was a post from a third party, something about sneaky judges using a magnet to detect if the tips are S/S or not.

That prompted my response about no magnet required, 5 feet etc............

That's right! I recall that post now and you are right...it is no longer there. That wasn't the post that should have been pulled as it was a lot less intimidating as one or two others.
