69 Kick Panel Speakers and Radio

Does anyone have a suggestion for some kick panel speakers for a 1969? Are there any high performance manufactures such as Bose that can be used or am I relegated to the standard 6 X 9 replacement? I'm still debating what to do with my bezel and radio. Mine is currently a driver and I'm looking for good setup possibly with a CD. I can change the bezel and radio later for judging.

Thanks for you input and have a great Thanksgiving!

I would recommend storing your original and buying a second OE radio core, have it gutted and upgraded with ipod connectivity, latest technology and an amp...then upgrade the kick panel speakers and you should get some good sound.

The speakers you recommend are 4 ohm low quality speakers. The stock radio needs 10 ohm speakers to function correctly. Most of the time replacing 40 year old speakers with new stock speakers does wonders for the sound system. The majority of the "conversions" use a cheap $20 radio for the "guts" which is lucky to last a year or two.

Don, I do not agree with anything Ken said...one mans junk is another mans treasure...One thing you will get in this hobby is a whole lot of opinions on something like this...I read your post that you wanted an upgraded system for your driver while maintaining stock appearance......Of course I do not recommend using a 4 ohm impedance mismatch to a stock radios original impedance requirements....I recommmend matching a new technology 6X9 with a modern technology amp/tuner CD player....if you google radios you can find technicians that can provide an unbelievable sounding long lasting system all hidden and undetectable to the most discriminating NCRS enthusiast.

By the way, the speakers I showed sound great with the correct amp/tuner....NOT with a stock radio. Have the option of the ipod interface added and you can have fantastic music at your fingertips....add a sub woofer in your rear compartment storage area and Frank Sinatra never sounded better.

        I have personally done it.

Or you can buy reconed or repop originals and get that great 70's sounding radio for your driver....LOL

The original speakers used for 68-69 were 4 X 10. They used a small magnet, too. There is very little room in the pillar posts for speakers. If you get much beyond the configuration of the original speakers, they won't fit without modifications to the pillar posts. You DON'T want to do that.

              Don:
Those speakers also had a bracket spot welded on to attach to the birdcage.
