63 plastic lisence plate frame?

I have the correct stainless lisence plate frames for my 63. The original selling dealer of the car just sent me a plastic lisence plate frame with his dealership name on it. My question is had plastic lisence plate frames been introduced to the market by 1963? Thanks for any info! stan

most/all were pot metal in that vintage--plastic came later, in my experience.

I would agree that all of them I have accumulated and seen over the years from that period are metal. Doesn't mean plastic ones did not exist, I've just not seen any. Pretty cool that the dealer still exists though !!

I have had positive experience from both Long Island Corvette supply and Paragon in aquiring the metal frames- both have passed judging without any problems. I have never seen plastic frame either. I hope that helps.

Hey Joe !

I think the original poster mentioned he had the correct frames, but was given a dealer frame with the dealer's name on it. Kind of like the ones we see today. I believe he was wondering if plastic dealer frames were period correct for his car. All I have seen are metal.

Just my .02 here. I have a set of metal dealer frames from 1977 and from the same dealer in 1982 that are plastic.

i collect dealer license plate frames from the 50's and 60's. all potmetal or stainlessor chromed cold steel. not seen any plastic critters in that era.mike

Tom, The dealer sold out in 88 and his name came off the store. I've talked with him over the years and he has given me a lot of help. He is Ray Weil of Amherst{Buffalo}NY.a great guy!
