Need assistance in Portland OR.

Hello;
We are in Portland till the 28th. Drove here from WI.

Need a GM parts contact and/or technician.

Brought an '01 Tahoe for our son to use.
5.3 engine has a slight water pump leak. These water pump base gaskets are known to leak. Think the pump should probably be replaced at 116,000 miles.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Iknow nothing about the 5.3L engine, but on general principles, if your son intends to keep the vehicle for a while, if the water pump has never been changed before, and you have to remove it to change the gaskets (or have it removed to change the gaskets) with over 100K I wouldn't hesitate to put a new pump on there. You already have the labor invested, so the cost delta is just the pump.

The Car Talk (Click and Clack) web site lists mechanics in different Towns. This list is compiled by people who have had good luck with the mechanics listed. Any of the local guys should be sufficient considering the nature of the repair.
