    1954 Pennant Blue originality

    Hello:

I have an opportunity to purchase a 1954 that the present owner states was originally Pennant Blue. Please let me know if there are any clues to look for on the car to help me verify his claim. I thought that later C1 cars sometimes had a crayon mark in the trunk storage area indicating body color. Does this apply for 1954?

Anything else to check besides paperwork that he does not have?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you,

    Don Walker

No markings that I'm aware of.

I believe Pennant Blue was introduced in March of 54, so no cars prior to that build time would be painted that color.

Pennant Blue was the second most popular color in 54, behind Polo White.

I would look in the soft top & trunk hinges area, that's an area few people will strip but just over paint. That's the reason I never painted over them in my 55 copper to prove it was copper (and it is a bit dirty in there).Only my opinion but in 55 any # vett can be any color offered .

pennat blue discontinued 4/1/55. besides the areas roy noted, check the cowl vent assembly area for evidence of original paint as it too wasn't usually stripped on repaints.mike

My old 54 #841 was born Pennant Blue w/shoreline beige interior. Not sure what part of the year #841 would have been made.

I have pictures somewhere. I removed the original interior during restoration and saved it for years then finally threw it away.

I would look for blueover spray that may have gone through the vent screen and showunder the dash, and also in the door jambs etc..

I have a bunch of pics of an unrestored original pennant blue car (#3300) on my website: 54 Blue Car

53 to 55 cars have been known to change colors, so you need to be very careful.

              Hi Joe;

I'd "buy" the fact that 841 was built after mid March, 54. My old 659 which I sold had the original block cast Mar. 1. I believe that car was built in early March of 54.

Your old car would have been almost 200 cars after mine. I'm unaware of any real accurate production records for 54's. It's a "crap shoot".

Might get on your back and check the bottoms of the doors closely as well. They may still show evidence of another color if a repaint was done with the doors on. Also if you can take the door panels off you may see the original paint shoot covered more overspray area on the door than any reshoot.

Corvette Birthday book data gives March 19 1954 for #659 and April 6 1954 for #841!

The only color for 53 to 55 that is undeniable are the white 53's others are a guess at best
