Chrome Cleaner to Remove a Baked On Overspray?

I have encountered a problem with baked on overspray on the exhaust tips, I've tried a few solvents, including paint thinner in trying to remove this overspray, however nothing has worked . Any suggestions as to what I might find that works without damaging the chrome? As always, thanks in advance for any help...

I'd try Simichrome Polish. I've used it successfully on chrome bumpers, exhaust tips and to remove scuff marks from the plastic rear window in a '67 hardtop.

Try a detailer's clay bar. Use a spray detailer type lubricant and run the clay bar over the surface. They work great on paint that encounters overspray amd should work on the exhaust.

If that does not work try a soapy Brillo pad with water. That should do it. Good luck.

I have found Turtle Wax Chrome polish to perform very well on your condition and many other applications.
It is a mild polish that is not abrasive.
Readily available at the discount stores.
              Good Luck

I think Roy is on the money with his reply. If you just have a little overspray his method is the best. If you have a heavy coating of paint or a combination of primer, paint and even clear top coat your best bet is to break down the coatings with a light coat of stripper. Put on some gloves and use a brush to cover the painted surfaces, the minute you see the material breaking down have a rag and some laquer thinner ready then wipe off as much as you can get off. You will now have a clean surface which you can either polish with steel wool starting maybe 00 and working your way up to 0000. Then use some Mothers and you will see your rag (an old T-Shirt works great) turn black and that is when the result will be what I think you are looking for. I hope this helps Ted
