I am a original type guy but I love 255's on 68-69's

However, I want to just keep my stock 7" wheels on my 68. I would think 255's would be really pushing it on 7" wheels although I know they will fit. So, what about 245/60's all around? They would fit the wheel a little better but what question I have is will they rub? I have talked to some people who have 255's on a 68-69 and some say they rub some say they don't.

So, with 245's would it be pretty safe to say they won't rub? this is on a l36 car I know the engine weight probably has some to do with it rubbing or not.

I may just put 225's back on it but perfer the wider look.

245/60/15's will work fine with no rubbing problem. The problem you will have is finding a tire in that size. For that size, you will find that your choices are EXTREMELY limited and none of those will be speed-rated any higher than "S"..

They won't rub on the fenders but they will rub on the frame rail behind the wheel at full lock. I had 245-60s on my 69 with the 8" rims for the longest time and all though you couldn't hear it there was a very pronounced shiney spot on each side of the frame from the tires rubbing on it when turned to full lock.

they should still look pretty wide compared to the 225's that I run on it.

Brandon, I got sick of looking at the original rubber on my Duntov International blue 68. So I took them off the original 7" rims and sold them at Carlisle. Now I have a set of WIDE rubber..... Gotta take advantage of the big open fender wells that the Mid Years don't have.

Goodrich TA's 215x60 up front and 245x60 in rear. They mounted up nice on the 7" rims. The stance on the car looks great. And the rear tires just clear the leaf spring mounting. The cost was almost nothing after selling those old skins. I should have got rid of the old F 70's right after I got the Duntov because they are not good for anything else other than the NCRS show field.

I have Goodyear Eagle ST's (245/60's) on my 68 with 7 inch wheels. They look great and don't rub. However as noted above, they will rub on the frame rail at full turn lock. I don't think they make the Eagle ST's any more, but you never know, maybe someone has a set sitting somewhere.

I've used Goodyear 245-60-15's on my 69 for about 25 years. I've never experienced any rubbing problem, at all. However, if a C3 has front spring "sag", the tires will definitely rub at full lock and, perhaps, at other times, too.

Goodyear Eagle ST's have been out-of-production for several years and the 245-60-15 size was discontinued even before they discontinued the line. I bought my last set of Eagle ST 245-60-15's about 12-13 years ago and I think I got them just before they were discontinued. As far as I know, Goodyear does not currently manufacture ANY tire in the 245-60-15 size.

I've got 255/60's on 8 in rims on my 68 (the F70's on 7 inchers are not allowed out of the basement). The car has F41 with fast no-power steering. It has never rubbed, even though I have to turn it all the way both directions to get out of my garage. Maybe I'm just getting too puny to crank the wheel that last little bit.
