Re: 69 Firestone OEM?
I must be lacking computer skills. I can't make these thumbnail pictures bigger. Couldn't see Tom's PoP and can't see any details in the tire. It sure looks like a real picture of a wheel and tire assembly, but I suspect your question relates more to authenticity.
I can se the Sears wheel weight int he second photo, so while it is a real wheel weight it is not one installed by Chevrolet, and probably not even by a Chevrolet dealer. From the tire ID I would guess it is a Firestone tire. As far as I know no one has the codes for pre-1971 Firestone tires.
It is too late tonight for me anyway.Terry- Top

Re: 69 Firestone OEM?
I have not purchased this as it is still in the wings. I was hoping it was authentic to be used as a spare during judging.
Can anyone confirn or disallow it from being authentic and suitable for judging as a spare?- Top

Re: 69 Firestone OEM?
Erv, post a closer picture of the nomenclature on the sidewall and a picture of the tread. First impressions is that it is real.
Terry, I just hold the pointer over the picture and double click. The photo opens in another window.Last edited by Dick W.; November 19, 2008, 09:44 AM.Dick Whittington- Top

Re: 69 Firestone OEM?
I only have a few pictures of the tire and wheel. The sidewall shot is the only one from that angle. I am attaching a tread view.Attached Files- Top

Re: 69 Firestone OEM?
There was one on Ebay just a few weeks ago. It sold for like 77 dollars. And it was a wheel and tire. I would not give over a 100 for something like that. But that is me, some might go a lot more. I like to drive my car so old tires are not one of my priorities. And if I wanted old style tires I always just buy reproductions.
Of course no one reproduces this tire and more than likely never will. So that might make it worth more to some, just all depends how bad you want a old tire in your tub.

Re: 69 Firestone OEM?
Well, it's pretty certain that this one isn't 'untouched'... The 'SEARS' emboss in the balancing weight says the tire/wheel has been worked on, eh?
Note, the sidewall's source ID code is NOT the standardized DOT format that came into effect in 1971! That tells you right up front, you're dealing with a pre-71 piece of rubber here...- Top

Re: 69 Firestone OEM?
Erv I'll send you a PM with my email address. I would like to see a bigger version of the side view, if you would send it to me. What I can see, I like -- but I need to see more in order to be sure.
If this tire is an original it would work well in judging for a spare. Then get 4 Goodyear reproductions for the road wheels. For NCRS judging the spare does NOT have to match the road wheels.Terry- Top
