A while back I contributed to a thread over on the CF as to whether or not there were any 1980 L82 4-speed manual transmission Vettes. Some people said that they had seen a few of them.
I had ordered a new 1980 Corvette with that combination and was told by someone at Chevrolet that the engine/trans had failed emission testing and the combination was so limited in volume that they were not going to try and recertify. I had to change may order to a L48 with 4-speed. My car was built in early March 1980.
There was speculation that pilot car(s) or very early production cars were build and may have been sold before the certification failure.
I now see that you can obtain a vehicle invoice for 1977 and newer Chevrolets from vehicleinvoice@gmmediaarchive.com for $50.
It would seem that a search of the gmarchive data base could answer this question once and for all. Does anyone have "pull" at the GM Media Archive?
