Re: Re-skinning 9 Fin Valve Covers

John, your comment about "cry lawn" got me thinking about some of the 7 fins I bought over the counter. Were any Al. covers painted with a thin coat of silver or some coating? I seem to remember at least one set that looked as if paint had rubbed off when they came straight out of the box.

I could go check them in the garage but it is only about mid-50's here in East TX and I don't want to get cold. After I moved from the North I can't stand anything below 80!

    Thanks!

    Steve

Steve, Ignore my sik humor. No paint on our favorite Corvette valve covers. At least their shouldn't be. Just raw aluminum. John

So is it possible to properly refinish these yourself or is the process too involved? What is done to properly refinish them?

There may be others, but to my knowledge, there are only three practical sources for aluminum auto part re-skinning.
Our friend and fellow, frequent, helpful poster, Mr. John DeGregory. (John's contact information has already been posted on this thread).

I have personally used MacNeish, and Hudson, and found their work, impeccable.
          impeccable.
In my opinion, their services are the only way to go. Doing yourself is futile.
          Hope this is helpful, Ridge.

John; I finally got my butt to the garage and opened a couple of boxes. I have two 7 fins I bought about '67 and noticed the "blotching" is just that, not paint. So, it could not have been "cry lawn", or even "russ toe leeyum".
