Re-skinning 9 Fin Valve Covers

Any recommendations on who to send my 56 valve covers to for re-skinning? They are in good shape with no cracks, breaks or broken fins, but just need to be re-skinned. I heard of someone in New Mexico, but didn't get the particulars. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I believe he also advertises in the Driveline if you are anxious to get in touch. John Degregory also performs this service (fellow NCRS member no less), as well as Jerry Macneish, and others I am sure.

I wonder where this term "re-skinning" came from. The people that provide this service all agree that no new material is added to the valve covers. Re-finishing is probably a more accurate term. Anybody know the origin of "re-skinning"?

I think that term was coined by ASL when they were still in business years ago.

John, I think your are right about Don Dorfman and ASL. He did my late -66 intake and valve covers. They came back like new. The only issue I had was the casting flaw on the covers was quite diminished by his treatment. The intake still cleans up very easily eight years later

John DeGregory does nice work on aluminum. He did a '58 FI unit for me a few years ago, it was rough when I sent it, came back looking new. He does valve covers too.

John is in SW PA and is a frequent contributor on this board.

Doc, did you know that John is also an accomplished amateur chef (cook?). He has his mother's recipe for dandelion soup that is supposed to be wonderful, as well as one for sweet corn. I believe he freezes them in the husk when it is in season and cooks it as needed throughout the year.

Robert, Which one was NOS? I remember one was NOS and one came from the titanic. Guys I really try not to co-mingle NCRS and my business. Unethical. I do appreciate the nice comments though.
Hinckley is 100% correct. No such thing as "reskinning the valve covers". False advertising. Sounds good though but it's a lie. They are just refinished by dipping them in cry lawn and hung up to dry on mama's old clothes line. That way you get the nice runs in them like original.

Michael, So the valve covers are yours. Sorry about the other post saying they belonged to RJ.. No wonder they look nice. I mean you can only do so much with VC's. If they pitted and POC they stay that way. Nice pic. Thanx, JD

That's quite the trip this post made...from valve covers to the titanic to dandylions to corn! I can almost taste it now.....the dandylions, that is.

Anyway, if it's really all about the "cry lawn" that sounds a little too slick and way nicer than what my old car and 9 fins deserve. I think I'll give you a call anyway just for the heck of it. Maybe to share recipes if nothing else.
