I'm having trouble with my headlights and windshield wiper door. They work properly on an intermittant basis. I bought a vacuum gauge and a manual that I think will help a great deal. One thing I don't see in the book though is any reference to the vacuum advance. I had the distributer rebuilt recently. Is it possible that the vacuum advance is causing this trouble, or is the vacuum advance strictly for carburator control? This is a tri-power car if that makes any difference. Thanks, Tony.

Re: vacuum issues on 69 big block
Vacuum advance is for distributor control, not carb. Should not effect your lights and wiper door. If the advance was bad it would leak vacuum which could cause a loss of some vacuum. This is not a normal problem though. First place to check is the many hoses and hose connections.- Top

Re: vacuum issues on 69 big block
Hi Tony,
I'm not sure which trouble shooting guide you have. I can recommend the one that Dr. Rebuild sells. It has instructions for testing each component's operation individually. If your guide doesn't help in that way, perhaps you might want to try the Dr's.
GOOD LUCK!

Re: vacuum issues on 69 big block
Tony,
You can test this with your vacuum gage pretty easy. Do they come up sometimes and go back down, do they just go slowly up, or do they not work at all at times?
One thing that maybe causing you a problem is a vacuum relay going bad and/or an actuator seal leaking. You may also have loose or cracking hose in the system that is moving while you are running. There are tons of things that could cause this.
You can do is test the system by taking other parts out of the system. If you block off the small hose at the check valve, you eliminate everything controlled by the small hoses. This would include the headlamp switch, the over-ride switches, and all the relay controls. Then run you a test hose from this fitting to operate each component individually by hand.
If you do this, and everything works fine, then look for the problem on the small hose part of the system for the problem.
The vacuum advance is not going to make any difference in the operations of the wiper headlamp system.
I have a picture on my web site that shows the operations of each small part in your system too, this may help you diagnose the problem. http://willcoxcorvette.com/repairand...lp.php?hID=218
