    67 Rag joint assembly question

At a recent event, I had a deduction under Coupler(rag joint) assembly, it said missing black plastic insulators. I went to my trusty Long Island Corvette catalogue and ordered a pair of coupler pin bumpers. I assummed that was what I was missing. Well, when I got them in the mail, I already had installed those pin bumpers a couple of years ago. What in the world am I missing then??? I'm puzzled.

I would recommend that you contact the National Team Leader and/or refer to the Judges, names will be on your judging sheets.

Here is my 67, I have no idea if it is correct, totally wrong or somewhere in between.

              Rick -

Your black plastic insulators over the safety pins are missing too; see the photo in Joel's second post.

Photo of rag joint insulator. About the size of a quarter and installed on the stud.

Re: 67 Rag joint assembly question

I took over responsibility for the flexible coupling assembly at Saginaw Steering Gear around 1970. I am sure that the rubber insulator was not in production at that time. I have seen them on first generation early Camaro flex couplings but I was not aware that they were on 1967 Vette as well. Your photo shows the part number 7800470 very clearly. I will see if my contact at Saginaw can get me information on its useage and what years.
