    80's Oil Filler Tube Extension

I believe sometime between 1980 and 1982 Corvettes had an oil filler tube extension that twist fit in the driver side valve cover and the chrome oil filler cap twisted into the tube. Does anyone know which year and if they are still available? I can't find in my book.

    Thanks!

    Steve

    Steve,
That tube was used on 1982 crossfire cars. Its a steel tube with an offset. I can get you a photo of the one I have if you wanted to ID it. Craig

Thanks Craig! I have been looking for one to install on my modified '77 so I don't spill oil on the Al. valve cover. I just can't seem to find one. I had the opportunity to buy one a few years ago and didn't.

      Shar Pei?

      Thanks!

The tube was used for 1982 only on Corvettes. As far as I can tell, it was used only for that application. It was GM #14047081 and it was discontinued without supercession in November, 1992. I don't think it's reproduced.

By the way, if your only interest is a functional one, I've seen other aftermarket type tubes out there that will function pretty much as the 14047081.

B & D bodies with Gen II LT-1 (1994 to 1996) have a black plastic oil fill extension, but the oil fill cap is a black plastic threaded style. The rocker arm cover end is the more familiar quarter turn style, so I think it will work on the earlier covers. If you want chrome, Joes suggestion should be your choice.

The oil filler "1/4 turn twist lock" configuration used for the Gen II small blocks installed in 1994-96 Impalas was not the same as the "1/4 turn twist lock" configuration used for 1969-82 Corvettes. So, I don't think the fill tube extension is compatible with the valve covers on earlier models. It MIGHT be possible to install one but, if so, I don't think it will seal properly.

                    Steve,
Here are a couple of photos of the one I have. It's pretty heavy duty, and has a friction locking ring at the base. The chrome cap is aftermarket I believe since its a push in not a twist on. When it threads to the valve cover you put a little twist to the lock ring to secure it so it will not loosen up. Pretty neat. To answer the other question, yes the dog is a Shar Pei (Sebastian). Hope this helps, Craig
