    Rebuild Sealed Type Fuel Pump?

Can someone recommend a rebuilder for a sealed type fuel pump (40482)? Mine is original and I'd like to have it rebuilt instead of just replacing it with a new pump. I searched the archive and the only suggestion I found was Goat Hill. I'd sooner put a replacement on than deal with them.

    Thanks!

Have you looked for a NOS one? I don’t know that much on the C-2. But I’m looking for a NOS one for my 71 LS-5 and they don’t seem to be any so far. But I have just now only started to look for one.

Keep one thing in mind. NOS AC fuel pumps (i.e. fuel pumps with 100% original configuration and "AC" trademark on the casting) were manufactured AT LEAST 25 years ago. Fuel formulations have changed markedly since then. Presumably (but unverified), the elastomer components of fuel pumps have changed, too. So, when using an NOS fuel pump, one is very likely at a disadvantage from this perspective.

If there has been a change in elastomer materials, does this mean that the pump is going to fail shortly after being put into use with modern fuels? No, I don't think so. However, it will be a "weak spot". I don't like "weak spots" in a fuel system for a driven car.

Would I take a chance on compromising the integrity of the FUEL SYSTEM on my car for the sake of an "AC" logo? Never.

Joel, I just received my 6440659 (68 400) pump from Paragon. It looks great. I haven't put it on yet. I am also seeking someone to rebuild my original one. I do have a 6440482 that I just got and I'll send it out to you to inspect if you want to use it.

I have a new #6415325 pump in my stock that says it's for a 64 thru 66 (?). Don't know where or when I picked it up, and can't even imagine why.
Any one know about it or can use it, just let me know. I guess I was hoping to get one as a spare, but it is obvious this one I have will not interchange with my 63 (fittings are very different).

Re: Rebuild Sealed Type Fuel Pump?

There used to be at least one fella advertizing fuel pump rebuild services for the classic non-rebuildable pumps who advertized in Hemmings Motor News. I have no idea as to how good his work is/was...

The 'trick' is removing the lower body that's crimped on and then re-crimping it after replacing the pump's internal diaphram and/or valves. I'd be leery of the longevity/integrity of such as that approach invites metal fatigue...

I think they rebuild the screw-type pumps and not the crimped style. However, you could contact them and find out.

Joe, you are correct I contacted them. Thinking that my L46 pump, could be rebuilt. I took your advice, when I asked this same question.

                      Bob,

Just so I am clear, did they say they are NOT able to rebuild a sealed pump?

Might need to buy one of the repro/rebuilds from Paragon
