I don't remember the details why..but Ken Kaysers 57 pilot fuelie has a red faced column tach. Ken would be able to explain the details. There is a picture of it in his book on fuel injection.

There were a number of similar but different AC 8000 tachs from that vintage. Some with the 0 starting point at 6:35, some at 12:00 etc...

I even found some 60 mph speedometers that looked curiously like the 8000 ac tach.

I never chased it down but I would imagine an AC tach vintage parts book would be interesting.

Thanks Joe! I have to get the book. I heard in the mid-late 80's when I bought an 8000 tach that in late '56 a 1957 270 HP carbureted car was equipped with a red faced 8000 tach. Do you know of any indepth AC tach books or info sources in addition to the FI book?
