Re: What Bellhousing to use
The 621 will work fine with an 11" clutch (and 168-tooth flywheel); the 421 won't - that was a one-year-only housing for 10.5" clutches used only on 63's with a "small" transmission front bearing retainer hole.- Top

Re: What Bellhousing to use
He can also use a GM #464697 IF he finds one with the clutch fork ball stud on the UPPER side of the elongated ball stud boss. These can be picked up cheaply at swap meets since very few folks want them. Actually, a bellhousing with a 464697 casting number and a ball stud boss as described is a GM PART #3899621 bellhousing. Some were used in later PRODUCTION, possibly even on late C3 Corvettes, and many were sold in later SERVICE. Hardly anyone knows that, though. The 3899621 bellhousings usually sell for top dollar because they have the "right" casting number. For a street rod, casting number is about as inconsequential as anything could be, though. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
