While I'm under the hood, here's another head scratcher. These 3 model years of driver-side battery location had the +ve battery and the speedometer cables running in close proximity to the right of body centerline. I'm interested in opinions on the relative location of the cables. Unfortunately, the 1965 AIM never shows these two together; UPC M20 Sheet 4 shows only the speedo cable and clips, and UPC C60 Sheet E2 shows only the batt. cable routing and firewall clips {view A} [AIM specifies that L78 uses same A/C batt cable routing and clips as C60].
Pic shows RH firewall area of my 396 (pretend the inboard clip is rotated about 25 degrees counter-clockwise {to vertical}, to agree with AIM
). The middle clip is the uncoated type with solid rivet and round tip used for speedo cable - the same clip is found on the passenger side trans tunnel before the cable turns to screw onto the trans tail housing fitting. The battery cable clips are rubber/plastic (?) dipped on the part that holds the cable. This is an S-body car; A.O. Smith rivets may be different.
Pic has speedo cable in its middle clip; The battery cable is in its outboard clip, and, for purposes of illustration, I've left it out of the inboard clip. If I was to put it back in this clip, it would be difficult to NOT have it also lie in the speedo clip, above the speedo cable (ie. hard to route the battery cable around the speedo clip to avoid it).
What is cable arrangement on others' cars with the right-side battery ?
