    68 427 fuel pump

This is for a 68 427/390 car...The ones with the 40659 stamped into the flange are $170.

I'm wanting somthing that looks nearly original just lacks the 40659 and ac delco stamped on it.

what is a good brand to go with that will look nearly like the original?

airtex, masters, or a replacement style ac delco.

    any advice?

    thanks

I think they're all about the same and, in fact, may all be from the same manufacturing source. You can use an AC type 40482, aka GM #6416741. This will look similar to the original pump, but there are significant differences beyond the numbers and AC logo. For one thing, it has a long chamber inlet; the 40659 used a short chamber inlet. The 40482 is configured like the pump used for L-71 and L-88 applications, so if you had one of those, then the 40482 would be the way to go.

Airtex to the rescue. Airtex has available their pump #40659 (wonder where they came up with that number?). In any event, it is configured much more like the original pump than the 40482 and that's the one I'd use if I were you.

mine a l36 though it calls for the 40659 the 40482 if I remember looks different.

the tube on the 40482 comes down futher and looks different. maybe not tho? does ac delco not carry a 40659?

Yes, see my revision to my first post. I remembered something just after I clicked "post message". The AC 40659 is discontinued. However, if it were still available, I'll bet it would look identical to the Airtex 40659.

          thanks Joe!

I'll just go with the cheapo airtex....or masters whichever my local places have in stock. I think they both look the same and look very close to the ac 40659.
