        The steering box all have the same # number only the mast is different ,my 55 don't show any date as your's 56-4-23 or a 61 I have.
        Interesting your's does tho! Just go's to show many things to learn , great trivia nice to see other trivia and not just mine! Give use more

          Thats correct!

          The 1956 production SR1's which will soon be flight judged were built with special shortened steering masts and these special built units carried the extra date stamp as shown.

          This will need to be added to the judging manual at some point so judges will have a reference.

            This is the RPO SR10A option for the 56 Corvette. The production part number is 5671288.

              Next time I get a chance..I will post a picture of the special generator and oversize pulley.

              I believe it is also documented in the Ken Kayser book on Fuel Injection where the over sized pulley is discussed along with the special tach that is geared to work with the over sized generator pulley.

              Jimmy Blakely and a few others can testify to the unique gear ratio.
