Trico inserts for 1970

Is there a "trick" to getting those old rubber blades removed from the narrow slots on the wiper blade refills to install new ones rather than having to purchase them? If not who sells the most correct ones?

There are two ways to interpret your question:

(1) How to get the refill assy out of the blade holder.

(2) How to get existing refill rubber out of the blade's refill rails.

The first is pretty much self-explanatory. The refill uses a 'latch-lock' retaining mechanism. You squeeze the release tabs in until the locking barbs clear the refill rail and slide the refill assy out of the blade holder.

The second is a little tricky, but still rather straight forward. Study the orientation of the latch-lock mechanism. You'll find it's held by the crimped upright on the end of the refill rails and the retaining barbs are nestled between the top side of the refill rubber and the bottom side of the refill rail. Slide it back and up to get it free from the refill rail + the rubber.

Now, look at the rubber insert. Spraying it with something slippery like WD-40 helps. Push the rubber in to compress it and 'slots' in the refill rail can be seen. Bend the rubber down, though the slots and slide it out of the refill rail. Install the replacement rubber in reverse order.
