    Lyndon,
That is the other embossed filter I referred to in one of my PF-25 filter posts last week. Not anything that you see very often. I think it is a very early PF-25. I found one for my collection years ago.

How does this filter do o the judging field? It would seem that it is not typical embossing so I am curious how it would judge.

The embossed message " REPLACE WITH AC FILTER SEE MANUAL" was added to the AC drawings on June 8, 1967 and was replaced by the embossed message " BEST WAY TO PROTECT YOUR ENGINE REPLACE WITH AC" August 8, 1968. On January 3, 1972, this embossed message was removed and no embossing appeared on the drawings after that date.

Based on this information, no Corvette left the factory with the earlier embossing and probably only Corvettes produced from mid 1969, when PF25's were introduced on Corvettes, until mid 1972 had the later style embossing.

In my opinion, any Corvette judged with the earlier embossing should receive a small deduction for appearance. Since there is no documentation as to when these changes were put in production, it seems reasonable to accept either the later emboss or no emboss on 1972 model Corvettes produced after January 3,1972. It would also seem reasonable to conclude that all 1973 Corvettes had no emboss on the filter.

Don & Dolores. So, only 1968 Vettes had the oil filter with the embossing "REPLACE WITH AC FILTER SEE MANUAL", on it.

My Vette with a June 72 build date would more then likily not have come with any embossing on the oil filter, given the 1/3/72 date.

For what it is worth I have an original NOS PF 25 oil filter (P/N 6438261) with the embossing "REPLACE WITH AC FILTER SEE MANUAL" I would possible be interested in swapping this filter for an embossed filter with "BEST WAY TO PROTECT YOUR ENGINE REPLACE WITH AC" embossed on it. (Even though it is probable not correct for my car)

          Any thoughts or comments.

My thoughts are that 1968 Corvettes did not use a PF25, but then we have been down that road already.

Yes, the PF-29 was used for 1968 Corvettes and I've never seen a PF-29 that had the embossing. The PF-29 was only manufactured for a relatively short period of time so I feel very confident that the ones I've seen pretty much represent the "gamut" of PF-29's.

Are you guys saying the PF 25 was not original equipment to 1968 cars?

That seems contrary to other posts.

I don't know what posts you are looking at Jerry. We beat this to death about a year ago and again a couple of months ago. It is old news on this forum.

Edit Add: Yes, we are saying PF29 is correct for 1968 and maybe early 1969. That is why someone has gone through a lot of trouble to make a reproduction PF29. Oh, and the quality of that reproduction has been reviewed on this forum some time ago.

Please note that in the second paragaph in my original response I point out that the PF25 was introduced in mid 1969.

Terry and Joe are correct that the PF29 was used in 1968 and possibly in early 1969 production.
